The world's best known female athlete Anna Kurnikova was born in Moscow, Russia, on 7th June 1981. She graduated from a Russian high school in 1997. She was very much interested in playing tennis from the age of 5. By seeing her interest in tennis her parents Mr. Sergei and Mrs. Alla Kurnikova sold their TV to buy a tennis racquet, her first gift for the Christmas.
Sergei Kournikova was a lecturer at the sports university in Moscow and a part time tennis coach. Anna's parent refers to her "Murzik" in Russia it means "my little pet". They also encourage their daughter Anna to take part in the physical activities form her childhood.
When she was nine years old she played in the Kremlin Cup in Moscow, and got an opportunity to train at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Florida. But the next year she was the youngest ever winner of a Federation Cup match. By the end of 1995 she become a ITF Junior World Champion and ranked 1st in the junior game.
